    HI GUYS, IM LOOKING AT A 72 CUDA WITH A 440/727 AUTO RUST FREE CAR. I DONT KNOW A WHOLE LOT ABOUT MOPARS BUT ALLWAYS WANTED A CUDA. I GUESS WHAT MY QUESTIONS ARE HOW CAN YOU DECODE THESE CARS? AND DID THEY MAKE ANY WITH THE 440 ENGINES? HOW CAN YOU TELL IF ITS NO.#MATCHING?AND ECT---- THIS CAR HAS THE AAR STRIPES. THIS IS A VERY SOLID CAR THAT WOULD BE A EASY ONE TO RESTORE. IF ANY ONE CAN HELP ME WITH SOME OF THIS . I WOLD APPRECIATE IT. THANKS.  JEFF

    Hi Jeff, welcome to the best mopar site on the web. I know in challengers that in 72 they only came with small blocks, might be the same with cudas, someone who knows cudas will let you know soon.

    The 440 was not available in E bodies after 71, so the engine would definatly not be numbers matching.  What you are probably looking at is a 318 car with the 440 transplanted.  AAR stripes are also not original, obviously.

    If you are asking for what it's worth, pictures of the car would be invaluable.

    thanks ghost, dont have pics. i just bought a 72 chevelle ss from this guy and im going up monday evening to pic it up, he showed the car to me and like i said its a rust free car, the interior looks real goog and original, has the floor shift bucket seats 150mph speedo fact. tac and guages, the engine and trans is setting in his shop ready to drop back in looks like it came straight from the fact. he said thats the engine that came with the car when he bought it. has 8 and 3 quarter inch rear end 3:23 posi has the cuda hood with cuda 440 emblems on it. wants 9500.00 for it. just wondering if it would be worth restoring.  I"ll BE DOING ALL THE WORK MY SELF SO IM FIGURING TO PUT ABOUT 3 GRAND IN IT. TO MAKE IT REALLY NICE, WHAT DO YOU THINK?  THANKS, JEFF

    Welcome to the site, Jeff.  With the information you gave, it sounds like it is a solid car but the price tag seems a little too high for a '72 'Cuda project.  I'd say it would be worth somewhere around $7,500 the way it sits.  (unless you can see he's already done a lot of bodywork on it to prepare it for paint, then I'd say somewhere around $8,000.)  Let us know how things turn out.

    Welcome to the board jkroth!  Sounds like an interesting project and well worth looking into (aren't they all!!  :grinyes: )  I would have to agree with Street on the price though, $7 or 8K.  Take your camera up there Monday and take some pics...its much easier to give a guesstimate with pics.

    Hi Jeff and welcome to the site. I think the price maybe a little high as they never put a 440 in a 72 and unless alot of body work has been done and it is a easy restoration I would say $7,000 is about the highest I would pay.
