What is a reasonable price on a 70 Challenger

Just found this site recently and am wanting some input.  I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place or not.  I had a 69 Roadrunner back in high school and am looking to get another mopar.  I found a 1970 Challenger in my area and wanted to know what a reasonable price would be.

Here is some of what I know.  It is a regular Challenger with a 340 w/727 slap stick.  The car needs foors, trunk, quarters, fender work and right rear frame rail where the bumper attaches.  The interior is out of the car and he says that its all there.  It is a supoose to be a numbers matching block, which I need to verify.  This is the fender tag information: V9X Y05 26 EN1J45 J54 M21 N47 N42 R22V1X A66 B51 C16 C55 H51FC7 H6X9 000 513 025262E55 D32 JH23 H0B 339299.  He is asking $7000, which I think I can talk him down.

I am looking for a project car that might be a good investment in the coming years.  My other concern is how much am I going to be spending on this type of body work?

Pleaes help a 40-year car lover out in spending some money.  Thanks.

I personally wouldn't spend that much, but then I don't 'overspend' on my Mopars. If your into the purple thing, it sounds like a nice car. I really like 340 Challengers. Excellent start for a car! If you don't end up getting it, and you're near me, I may be interested in it. Where are you located?

I Think that is the going price, if you talk him down and get it for less, great. Probably 8-11K for body and paint. 1500 for interior, depending what it needs (dash, seats recovered etc) Tires, rims, exhaust ....probably 14-16k to complete, but not a show car. May be cheaper to get one already done.

It's almost always cheaper to get one done. Let someone else lose the money and time...

I like putting the work into my cars though......makes them mean more to me! I don't do it for a profit or just for the final project.  I do it for the fun (not always fun though) and the feeling of accomplishment throughout restoration.  Also for the part finding game!
