whats is the ballpark price for a 70, 71 hemi 4 speed transmission?

I found several on ebay in various conditions under transmissions - prices about $650 & up - also Passon Performance has new guts for the 833's

Passon also sells complete 18 spline trannys with 100% new parts including the case

something for you to consider. unless you are shooting for a concours restoration. the new generation overdrive add trannys are not quite as expensive as would seem at first glance. a case in point is the 4 speed car i'm about to complete. buying a used trans is only the starting point.
even if you are lucky enough to recieve one in good condition. an obligitory inspection  & tune up will require new seals, gaskets, fluid & probaby a
different speedo gear. remember also that these units are HEAVY. be prepared to spend a median of $ 250 for shipping. ( mine cost $425. to ship from alaska.) not to mention all the ancilliary appendages  ( shifter, rods, tabs , mounting plate, clutch, bellhousing .throwout, fork, z-bar, clips, brackets etc. ) which will all have shipping charges also.  add it all up and your easily in the 3 grand range. oh did i forget to mention
that those nice headers you bought may not fit now that you installed all the prior goodies.   ANY QUESTIONS ????
