Hood clearance for Challenger & Performer RPM intake
« on: December 25, 2005 - 03:19:43 PM »
WEll I now understand hood clearance will be a problem with this  Edelbrock RPM manifold and either a Carter or Holley bolted on top.      I heard one gentleman say that he cut out the base of his stock air cleaner and dropped his carb an inch or so into it.    Another person said that you may have clearance problems with the electric choke.   I am interested in any input on this subject.    Dont know whether to sell this intake, I hate to as I understand its a good choice for my application.    But I could go with a Holley Street dominator.    Car is to be mostly show and occasionally drive with an every now and then burst on the 1/4 mile scene.    Likely to see less than 2,500 miles a year on the street.    440 cu inch  060. over appox 282-290 duration and about 500 lift.   Will probable go with about a 2400 stall or so.     The camshaft by the way has an RPM range of 1500 to 6000.    I dont want to get off the subject though of the hood clearance with the Edelbrock RPM manifold.    Have others encountered this and what was your solution.    Did your carb have an electric choke?
thanks   kevin

if you do not mind using a drop base A/C you can use the RPM ,
this is why I normally recommend the Street Dom , it works as well & sit far lower & you should be able to use the factory A/C easily
