How many chances in a lifetime do you get to actually own one of the rarest muscle cars ever produced? The answer is "not many". However, for this (1 of 4), matching #s and (2) Build Sheets 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T 426 HEMI 4-speed, you will have one and only one more chance to own it. I have struggled long and hard on what I should do with this incredibly rare Mopar and have decided to make this car available one time for those individuals who feel that they have the finances to do this car justice with a professional restoration. I simply can not do it. Yes, I know that this same car was for sale twice previously on Ebay and did not sell. However, I feel that the lack of information and photo documentation was the reason for a no sale. You will not find those issues this time as I have a tremendous amount of information and photos available for all perspective buyers. So don’t let this chance pass you by.

First, I have just had Galen Govier authenticate that the engine and transmission are indeed original to the car.

Second, please note that this is a "REGULAR AUCTION" and "NOT A PRIVATE AUCTION" like so many others are doing for some unknown reason. (I could speculate but will not.)

Finally, please check my FEEDBACK and you will see that it is 100%.

According to Musclecarclub.com, the 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T 426 Hemi was the 15th rarest muscle car built with production figures of only (13). When you break that down by automatics and 4-speeds, the 70 Hemi Coronet is tied for 4th with only (4) produced. This auction is for (1) of those (4) 4-speeds. Here is the web page confirming this information:

http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/general/musclecars-rarest.shtml

Additionally, I have been told by a Mopar expert that this particular car was the 1st one built of the (4) produced. If it is possible to make this car even more collectable, I have also been told that two of the options that this car has, the V88 option (transverse stripe delete) as well as the R22 option (AM Radio with 8-track), are both very rare options and make this car even more desirable.

At the Barrett Jackson Auction on January 24, 2003, one of the other (4) 1970 Hemi Coronet 4-speeds sold for $179,800. This should give you an idea as to what other collectors feel the value of one of these (4) Hemi cars is in today’s market. Here is the Barrett Jackson site:

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/cardetail.asp?id=173137

At this point, I have not touched this car. It is a matching numbers car with (2) build sheets and the fender tag still intact.

The following information relates to the history that I have on this incredibly rare HEMI car:

On March 02, 1970, the car was sold from Fremont Dodge in Fremont California to Bernardo Ballesteros (owner #1) who lived in Fremont California. The car was sold sometime in 1979 to Lane Rivers (owner #2). Lane Rivers owned the car from 1979 till 1983 when he sold the car to Robert Cameron (owner #3). Robert Cameron owned the car from 1983 till 2000 when he sold the car to Dan Shinnick (owner #4). Dan Shinnick owned the car from 2000 till 2001 when he sold the car to Clayton Keates (owner #5). Clayton Keates owned the car from 2001 till February of 2004 when he sold the car to me, Al Barlow (owner #6), in Thomaston Maine. This particular Hemi car has resided in California its entire life until I purchased it and transported here to Maine in February of 2004. It was last registered in 1984, at which time it was garaged and the engine was pulled. The car sat until 2000 when the owner, Robert Cameron, had the engine rebuilt by Ronald Osborne. The rebuilt hemi engine was then reinstalled back into the car. The car was then sold to Clayton Keates in 2002, who continued to store the car until it was purchased by myself.

When I received my documentation from the previous owner Clayton Keates, there were (2) letters from Roland Osborne to Robert Cameron (owner number 3). It seems that Roland Osborne worked for Chrysler Power Magazine and/or Chrysler Performance Parts Association. In the letter, he talks about rebuilding the 426 Hemi engine and states: "I have been gone for 8 weeks and can't tell you for sure on a completion date. However, I am planning to do a Street Hemi Restoration feature on your motor for the next issue so that will guarantee that you will have the motor before the next mag." I assume he is talking about the Chrysler Power Magazine. Also, Roland Osborne mentions who did what to the engine when it was rebuilt.

Heads, valve job, pistons and block work were done by "Dick Landy;"

Balancing was done by the "Balance Shop;"

The crankshaft was repaired by the "Crankshaft Grinder."

Tear down and assembly by "Roland Osborne;"

Hey Al,
Glad to see you got the car.  Heres why people are putting on private auction lately.  You can email people who are bidding on your car, and try to sell them your car, if you hold a regular auction, a private prevents that.  Heres another thing that happened to me personally.  Guy bids on my car (on no reserve) then somebody else writes him and tells him the car is junk, then in turn trys to win the auction at the end  for a lower price, after bad mouthing my car, and driving the price lower.  Just a few scenarios of why people put private auctions on.  Also , on high dollar cars, some bidders dont like to be exposed as well, for various reasons.

Saw it on eBay as well, looks good! It'll definitely make quite a pretty penny.

It would have been cool to see this car at Carlisle... keep it for a while, drive it around, then sell it. (And inbetween you can loan it to me for a week or two ;D)

Best of luck with your sale and finding another car (e-body, maybe?)

wow what a blast from the past! I "traveled " out to the central ca. valley to look at a friend of a friends hemi car back in the mid 80's. The guy was Bob Cameron and this was THE car. The wife had piled laundry on it and the Hemi was sitting on an engine stand. He wasn't doing anything with the car (newly married/lack of money), but was going to hold onto it. I didn't care for the Green color(!)
so i did not pursue it. one of those woulda coulda shoulda moments!
Anyone recall what the car sold for?

Login..I thought about that :thinkerg:, suggested it in a post :dunno:, and someone said I should not change it 'cuz it tells my story....which is true.
Thoughts?

THis car has a sore spot with me, since I could have bought the car before owner number 4...but couldnt come up with the money (20k)...thats right...20k.....turned and sold for 70k  plus cars.......ahhh......anyways, i know alot about this car.  It is a one of a kind for sure.  Neat car, not sure what it will bring now though, with a slower market.  After barrett , should heat back up.

Sorry ChevyConvert, I mistook what your login meant - you were converted from Chevy rather than have a Chevy Convertible.

I have a very simular car as your 70 RT/SE but it's not an SE.
