I wanted to blackout the hood on my dart. I assume that this is just flat black paint, but do you put clear coat on it too?

I think the flat black was put on the original SS factory cars because the drivers wanted it that way. It cut down on the glare/reflections of the "christmas tree" starting lights.  :burnout: If you want it to represent those cars, it needs to be flat black without any clear coat. if you are not going for that look, then you should do whatever looks best on your car.  :ylsuper:  Just my   :2cents:  ..  :cooldancing:  ....Oldschool

if you clear flat black you get gloss black , flat black is left natural , or you can use a 70% flat /semi gloss paint instead
