oil filter adaptor questions
« on: January 07, 2006 - 08:32:31 PM »
Hello all.  I am assemblying the 408 small block and I'm unsure of where the thick cork gasket goes for the 90 degree oil filter adaptor.  I assumed that the thin gasket goes between the bolt head and the adaptor and the thick gasket goes on the inside between the bolt and the block.  Is this right?

Yes, and if you use any sealer on the large outer gasket DON'T USE SILICONE!! If a small piece of the silicone gets sucked into the oil pump it can cause major problems!! I use a extremely thin coat of hylomar on most paper gaskets. It's great stuff and will remain pliable. Tighten the large bolt as tight as it will go then one more turn....Just kidding.....  :roflsmiley:

Thanks guys.  I already found out about the leaking part as oil pissed out while prelubing with only a drill!
