The .015 gap is set at WOT to keep from  damaging the pump arm, that is what I meant.

  I've read a tech article that appeared in Popular Hotrodding in the November
2005 issue written by David Vizard. Seems to cover this problem and a possible
cure. Seems annular discharge boosters can make a big difference in making a
large carb "come to life" on the bottom end off idle situations. Booster Science
is the name of the story and I thought it was good reading! Whether it helps you
or not I don't know. Goodluck   Jeff
