My 440 sat in a car in my garage
« on: January 16, 2006 - 09:00:35 AM »
My 440 sat in a car in my garage with headers on for about 12 years.  I now have it out and wonder if I should tear it down?  With the spark plugs out, it turns easy (I only turned the crank a couple of inches) and it only had a few thousand miles on it when I parked it.  I took off the oil pan and the valve covers and it looks fairly clean inside.  Anyone have any advice?

I would also run it. I let a engine sit for years before and the only problem was the valve stem seals had dried out and let oil leak by. I did put some light weight oil in each spark plug hole and primed the oil pump before I fired it up and had no problems.

I'm so glad someone mentioned this. I've been meaning to myself. I'm in the same exact situation. Pulled my 440 out about 4 years ago. Only had about 3000 miles on it. Was a bit hesitant, but you guys set me at ease a little more. I will go through it anyways, but thanks for the advice also
