RPM Range Matching
« on: June 01, 2002 - 11:42:08 PM »
I'm looking at getting a (Dynamic 10" Race) converter with an RPM range of 2800 - 3600.  I am also looking at a (Hughes Engines #3038) cam with an RPM range of 2000 - 5700.

My question is, are these 2 items 'matched'?  With an RPM range of 2000 - 5700 for the cam, would another converter be a better choice?  (The induction will probably be a 6-pak, rear gears will be 3:55, and the target ET range in the quarter is ~12 seconds.)

They will work together even irf it stalls at 3500 you have over 2000 rpm that you can drop between gears if you shift at 5700 & you are probably dropping about 1600 rpm between gears now. You probably want to stay closer to 2500-2800 rpm stall if you drive it on the street a lot though , it will unlock the converter , create a lot of heat from slippage & eat a lot of fuel city or highway.  Make sure you run an auxilary trans cooler as well . ;)

You may want to look at the 2330 cam it has the same top rpm range with more bottom end & you could run a a milder converter too ;)
