440 harmonic balancers
« on: January 20, 2006 - 09:17:58 PM »
How many balancers were used on a 440? I have seen three:
1. standard balancer with a steel crank motor
2. 6 pack balancer (look like std balancer but with a counterweight on the front)
3. cast crank 440 (says use with 440 with cast crank only on front)
i looked at a 440 in a 72 or 73 newport today and it looked like a cross between a cast crank and a 6 pack
I dont have any pics, im hoping that someone will be able to post some pics and educate me!
Thanks
Mike

the cast crank damper was used from 72 -78 they may have used differenty thickness dampers in different years but the actual balance should be identical unless piston weigth was drastically altered in some applications like motorhomes & truck applications
