Rear defogger installation.
« on: January 24, 2006 - 02:27:37 AM »
My 71 cuda has rear defogger code as well as switch on rally dash.  When I dismantled car, there wasn't a defogger.  i just purchased a complete setup, including wiring, blower, vent, etc.  I've  been looking in my 70 service manual ( I don't have 71 manual).  and there's nothing I can find on how it should be set up.

Does anyone know where I can get installation instructions?  Picture's a must!

Thanks
Cudaaah

I looked in our service manual and there were no pictures and little information, but I've scanned it for you anyway.  The pic after that is a close-up of the defroster installed.  The last pic is a wider view taken before we attached the vent from the blower to the opening in the package tray.

I really appreciate.  Do you know if I need to get a special package tray?  I'll have to go look at the one I pulled, but I think it was standard w/ just 2 speaker holes.  I'll check it out and get back.

Thanks lemur.  It's regular trunk splatter paint.  We just primed it first than painted it.  It has a slight texture to it, but I'm sure we could paint over it if we wanted to.

I am refurbing mine this weekend and have a question. On the combo mount casting, what attaches that aft-most mount lug? When mine is mounted in place on the package tray, that lug is out there with a large gap between it and anything it might attach to.  Did real defroster cars have an extra bracket for that or what?

I'll try and snap off a pic of that if I am confusing anyone.

got mine in this weekend. Man that was a pain! I wish I had spent more time detailing out the underside and below the package tray. I must be missing a support bracket that stabilizes the rear portion of the adapter shroud.
