Identify my 440cui
« on: August 05, 2014 - 02:41:07 PM »
Hi, I got a bigblock engine in my Challenger (clone 440) and it says "6 T440 E H P -  7 14 2"

Can you guys "decode of experties" translate to human language?  :bigsmile:

HP block first shift
1969 block most likely meant for 1970 model year but possible 69 year

Hopefully you still have the steel crank and six pack rods.

I will go the other way , I believe this is a 6T is a 76 block / engine 440 E cast crank HP
if the E was in front of the 440 I would say 69 but after is cast crank

The VIN on the passenger side of the block will confirm what year the vehicle was that it came out of... :2cents:

The casting numbers are another way to determine year.

This is what I found

6T = 1976
440 = CID
E = Cast Crank
HP = High Performance (never heard of 1976 HP block with cast crank - so maybe cop car?)
7142 = 10,000 day Julian Calendar (you'll need to check your numbers again 7142 = 2/15/81)

Look again, it's E H P (not E HP) so it's probably seperated H and P. That makes it "standard 4bbl" and "fuel recommended" ?!

E H P

hhmmm, looks like we need more information from the block - cast numbers, VIN pad numbers and harmonic damper ID.

I'd like to see a pic of the raised portion of the block.

That way there is no guessing
