Glad to be back after 2 1/2 days with no power!
« on: February 20, 2006 - 04:16:57 AM »
Lost electric power sometime Friday afternoon due to the high winds and just got power back at midnight, makes you appreciate things like heat and running water.Of course along with the high winds knocking trees down everywhere the temps dropped to the single digits making it very hard to keep the house above freezing with just a small fireplace, temp inside the house yesterday was a whopping 44 degrees!Big concern though was to keep the hot tub from freezing up outside so I went searching for a generator yesterday and after striking out at Home Depot and Lowes(sold out) I found a power equip dealer who had a whole row of `em.So good news is the new 5000watt Honda generator got me through yesterday with heat and some power, the bad news is I just spent 2/3 the tax refund check I hope we`re getting this year.As a bonus the unit is somewhat portable so will come in handy at the dragway this season.Hope everyone else made it through OK and hopefully all the power is restored by now.

I guess we were luck up here in Maine we lost it for 4 hour, and we use just wood heat here at the house, haven't brought any oil for 2 years, If you know any one out there that lost power again tell them it might be worth it to Drive to Maine to Home Depot  or Lowe here in Maine there might have a Generator here that might be a little cheaper

When I was in University in Nova Scotia, we had a hurrican in September (Juan) that left us without power for 8 days.  Half my class decided to go on a road trip to Montreal!! Then that winter we had a huge snow storm, 96cm of snow in 24 hours that left us with no power for another week. YOu sure appreciate electricity when you don't have it!

Jeff, you're a hearty New Englander, glad all turned out OK. You just need to be careful of your back buddy, how's things going in that deprtment? The generator can always come in handy.

I guess no matter where you live you learn to deal with whatever Mother Nature throws at you but that doesn`t mean I have to like it!  :stomp:  As far as a back update I guess it`s going OK.I would rate my back about 85-90% improved after surgery but the nerve in my right leg still aggrasvates me a lot, throbbing, aching, twitching and the occasional cramp, ouch!!Doc keeps saying give it more time so we`ll see but it`s something I can deal with and I`m almost back to a normal routine.
