What are they and what are they worth?
« on: February 21, 2006 - 11:15:28 PM »
A friend of mine came across 3 four speeds with the numbers C-95664 on the case. He was wondering what they're out of and what are they worth? They all need cleaned up and a good going over. I told him I would ask the people here. I know nothing about four speeds except how to drive one. :dunno:

Right next to that number is a VIN stamped on a pad.  Get that number and count the splines.  I can help you then.  Maybe someone else can figure it out with that number.

The 18 splines are the better ones.... and I need one so please let me put my hand up for one if they are 18's.

Thanks
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I think he said they were 28 spline if that makes sense. Also one person told him they were out of mid 60's B-body cars with big blocks. The only four speed I ever saw was an 833 about 20 years ago.

I found this ebay auction, don't know if it is the same. 18 splines came with 440's and hemis. 23 splines came with all other motors. Could be for a b,c,or a body. Most came in b bodies.

They look the same as that one only 2 of them hhave a different tail configuration (drive shaft would bolt to trans instead of a slip yoke). I will see if I can count the splines tonight at work and get the other #'s off of them.

The numbers on the one case are 5x8, 7x14. He left the other two at home. They are all 23 spline according to him. We figured out by some research they are all A833 trans. Also they all hhave the forward shifter mounts. One still has the shifter attached and looks to be original. If anyone is interested, Let me know and I'll give you his e-mail and/or phone #. He does have one listed on Ebay starting at $75.
