Challenger dual exhaust rear valance question
« on: February 17, 2006 - 10:50:53 AM »
I had planned to buy a repo rear valance but, the feedback I have been reading is not that good for quality or fit.

I have a perfect standard valance and think it would not be to hard to modify it. Does anyone have the measurements to make the proper cuts for the exhaust cutouts? I mainly need a measurement from the center and then the depth and width of the actual cutout. To make the raised edge lip I was planning to just tack weld in some light metal rods along the edge and use some fiberglass filler to feather it out.

I am building a budget driver so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've seen a buddy of mine use a standard valence then cut out the spots and leave a little lip, then bend it back over to give it the rolled edge.  I don't have any dimensions sry! :dunno:

Thanks for the response.

I looked at a 10,000 mile '70 Hemi Challenger a couple weeks ago but, from how he had it roped off I didn't think the owner would appreciate my Stanley tape measure anywhere near it.  ;)

Hey 72
i have the repo valance from year one, you're right to be worried about the quality :dupe: the steel is about half the thickness of the original and fitting it isn't exactly a snap either :swear: however I can measure it up and give you the dimensions of the cutouts if you havn't already got them
Cheers Paul

Thanks Paul

If you have time the measurements would be greatly appreciated. I tried to scale the dimensions off a picture but, I am not real confident with them and I would rather be sure before cutting up the original one.

Hey Ty
Here's the dimensions as best I can measure them. I took a few photos to try and give you an idea of the lips around the edge as well. Hope this helps.
cheers Paul

Wow Paul!

Thank you very much for the detailed dimensions and pictures. Those are better than I could have ever hoped for. Now I can start modifying the original and see how it turns out. I will post the results when done.

Thanks again.

No sweat guys, hope it helped you out.
I would have liked the same information myself a few years ago before I bought the repop valance but had no idea where to look. I have the exhaust tips as well, let me know if you need the dimensions of those too.
