Old School 318 Mods with factory parts
« on: February 20, 2006 - 04:00:06 PM »
Back in the day, when parts were available in the yards. I took a 69 318 block with the factoy fly cuts in the top of the pistons and bolted on 273 closed chamber heads, thermoquad intake and an 850? thermoquad (this was after I smoked the 340 in my 70 Challenger conv), automatic and 323 posi. What a Chivvy smoker! After many races I would pop the hood and show the looser what they just got smoked by. Prior to my showing I was accused of sporting a BB. They would say "d**n, that carb's bigger than the engine" and I would just laugh and say " It's just a stock 318!  :lol2:

I have heard that the 273 heads where a cool trick for 318's.   :burnout:

The large TQ is no surprise they are excellent carbs if properly built and tuned.  Since they are so reliant on vacum signal you can really get away with using a large carb on such a small motor.

Add a cam out of a HD 318, or a 360, and they really will fly!
LOL
318's are the mightiest small motors built, I think.
