I'm going to put up a new 16X24 garage just to house my baby in. It's currently in my son's garage next door but he wants to buy a new pickup and kick me out. (He really wouldn't kick me out as he wants the car someday), but I'm willing to go. The new garage will be attached to my existing garage and cost about 10 grand. Does this sound like too much???

I would say about right price but work it lower I would try mabie 8500-9000. Construction I have been in since I was 15 so bout that price good

That's about $31.00 a sq/ft.  That's probably pretty close.  Will it be concrete floor and ordinary construction, or a metal building?

I don't know where you live but I am doing the same in NJ. 32 x 24 three car garage.  I have gotten quotes from $25K to $80K. and that is for a unfinished interior. I will do the rest myself.
I did check out 84 Lumber and they have a complete garage package for about $4,500 delivered to your door.  You just have to assemble it.  Good luck in your endeavor.

Dave, The price seems a little high for the size of the building, but I'm not too familiar with your area, so that may just be the typical construction cost.  I remember putting up our 24X40 detached three car garage a couple years ago and I think it cost around $6,500 total for materials (Menards garage packaged modified to our likings) and constructing it ourself.

I spent about $6,000 building a 20'x30' garage about 10 years ago. It was fully insulated and drywalled and had a 1/2 bath, but I did all the labor myself including  digging the trenches for the footings by hand myself! I will NEVER do that again!
