Hand wax or electric buffer?
« on: February 26, 2006 - 09:40:52 AM »
I have done it both ways, and will use the buffer on the large flatter surfaces.  Just wondering which way everyone else waxes their cars.    :cooldancing:   ...Oldschool

I use a 3 part buffing system from 3M. First step is a rubbing compound, 2nd step is a swirl remover, and the 3rd step is a polish compound. After the buffer, I put on a thin coat of wax by hand.

I know the proper way to wheel a car but not much hands on time yet!  But to apply wax? . . . I use and electric polisher low RMP.  Just saves on the wrist . . .  :worshippy

The wheel will take off scratches and but to remove overspray and other crap, use a clay bar!  I like my paint clean but it takes awhile to do it right!   :dogpile:

if the paint was buffed new it shouldnt need buffed again unless you have minor imperfections to remove, like scratches. if you have to buff to get/keep a shine you probably need new paint  otherwise use your hand. if you bought a car with oxidation due to lack of care a wet sand and buff will due wonders.

I use hand products.  Something to think about is "paint clay". It really removes alot of the crud sitting on your paint.

If you are going to use a buffer , try to find one that is "random orbital" - this way each turn isn't the same circle, and it's kinder to your paint and more forgiving if you screw up.  Porter-Cable makes a good one.

Hand application then use the low rpm buffer with "sheep nap" pad, and of course hands only around those badging areas and stripes. I like Mcquire (sp?) products, but there are other product lines just as good I'm sure. It's fun so why speed it up, I use the buffer only because it will do a better job than what I can by hand.
