BB/SB radiator support
« on: February 08, 2006 - 05:02:18 PM »
I know the radiator widths are different on small block and big block Challengers.  Is the radiator support that the radiator bolts to a different width or are they all the same?

two support widths...22 inch and 26 inch. Big blocks can have 22 or 26 inch, and so can small blocks. just depends on what cooling package the car has on it. Max cooling has 26 inch radiators, standard cooling is 22. I've seeen 22 inch radiators on 440 automatic 3.23 geared Challenger R/T's , and 26 inch radiators on 318 cars with A/C.

Car in pic below was a factory 22 inch radiator, 440-auto 3.23 gear 70 Challenger R/T.

Lots of 383 cars were 22 inch radiators.  Any performance axle package got you the 26 inch radiator.

My R/T has a 22 incher, makes the engine compartment look bigger IMO and a little cleaner too.

Ac cars also had the 26 " rads
a 440 with a high efficiency 22" rad will not have a heating problem , my car is 440 with 22" rad & I have not had a problem even in Columbus sitting in traffic at the Mopar Nats

Ours has been "butchered" along the way...   It's obvious the car came with a 22" radiator, but someone used a torch to cut the right support back to open it up for a 26", then drilled and screwed a RH (26" style) support over the top of it  :screwy: , Then installed a 26" unit #3574626.  It looks weird as hell  :eek4:  The remainder of original RH support is still spot welded in and wraps around the to the side (fender) panel.

Should I find locate a RH 22" support and 22" radiator to put it back right, or doctor it up and call it good?  :dunno:

The car DID come with factory air, which I am leaning towards putting back in if it will bolt up to the Edy heads and aftermarket intake.
