Convert top gettin' slow, what's the culprit?
« on: March 12, 2006 - 05:39:57 PM »
Last time I put the top up in the Cuda, it barely made it.  Next time she'll need a helping hand for sure.  What is it that dies first, and causes the top to slow down?  Hydraulic cylinder?  Lift motor?  I'd love to only replace that piece....

TIA!

Usually it will be a leak somewhere . . .  :banghead:    That would be my bet!   :sadwavey:

So.... what, yank the back seat and look in the trunk for hydro fluid?  If I don't see any leaks of that nature, can the hydro cylinders still be bad?  It would be nice if it was just the motor....

I find that it might be the oil in the motor that pump up the cylinders, if it not a leak then it will be the pump, some time you have to fill them over time, I just refill my daughter in her Mustang she has a 93 Ferd Mustang Converable and it work great now :working:

Slow operation of the top can be attributed to many things. I would check for the obvious leaks at the cap of the reservoir and at the cylinders. It may be that if you have developed a leak, the reservoir needs refilling. The cylinders should also be lubricated occasionally so that they slide freely in and out of the seals. Keep in mind that the oil will become thicker with the cold weather, so the raising and lowerng of the top will also slow down. Good luck! Sal
