I have never pushed a 340 that far but with an R3 block & W8 or 9 heads it should be easy to do

I think that 460 hp at the wheels is around 575 hp at the flywheel.  This is beyond the limits of a stock block.   I agree with Chryco on the R3 block requirement.

With a stock block with 4 bolt mains, W heads, solid cam, what would be a realistic figer of HP at the wheels? I would love to see 400hp but is this possible? I just want to put my uncle to shame on the drag strip he owns a sky line with 400hp at the wheel and im not going to let a whoosh bang jap car beat me.

I knew a couple of successful racers that did a wicked small block & with a lighter chassis were only .4 or less off pro stock times in a similar chassis , it can Definatly be done

Just my 2 cents,

Are the aftermarket SB Mopar blocks available again ? 340 resto Block ? Last time I checked there wasn't any ?

I've done a few SB strokers @ "up to" 540 hp W/flat-tappet cam/pump fuel, for street guys. Haven't had ANY problems to date with the mains on the 2 bolt with studs, more with wanting to "push the cylinder walls out" on strokers @ higher rpm/power output. But that takes a few years beat'in on it.

Not that the aftermarket block isn'y highly recomended, it is.

It's just I'm not afraid anymore "at all" of the stock blocks when stroking @ the low 500's hp/6000 rpm. Plenty "Nuff to squish the Ricer when setup properly, besides his car is FUGLY !

PS; look at the "stock" SB Ford blocks.

Reminds me of "cheezies and pretzels" in a bowl, when compared to a SB Mopar.
But, we regularily build 'em W/studs, and the the Ford "MO's" put boost at 'em for 500 hp level, and they live just fine ! Go Figure !

The other limitation on SB engines is the weaker head bolting and perhaps the air flow limitation on the heads.  But again, these are not a bottleneck at 500 hp.  My 408 should be 460-475 hp with only mild porting of Eddy heads and a moderate hydraulic roller cam.
