Hi folks,
I'm trying to put a cloth headliner in my '70 Barracuda Gran Coupe. The
Gran Coupes originally came with a hardboard and foam/felt headliner due
to the overhead console, but the interior was completely stripped by the
time I got the car so I've got none of that stuff. I have everything
I need (except for the little wires that connect to the last bow), but
I am having some difficulty finding where the last (5th) bow goes - the
one closest to the rear window. I am pretty sure I've got the right bows
since I picked up a used headliner out of a 70 Cuda which still had the bows
in it - I pulled the bows out of the date coded headliner myself, and I've
compared the 5th bow to other 1970 Cuda bows I've seen listed on ebay
and it looks to be the same. (Unlike the 5th bow for the Challenger which
is much larger.)
Anyway, the problem is that there doesn't appear to be any place to
mount the 5th bow. There are a pair of slots above the sail panel
area for the headliner bow clips, and another pair down in the sail
panel area itself. The bow is too long to fit into the upper slots
and too short to fit into the lower slots. If I position the bow
where it looks like it *should* fit, there is nothing near the ends of
the bow except air - no place for the bow retaining clips. The ends
of the bow sit next to a void in the formed B pillar.
Has anyone ever done a 5 bow headliner? Do you know where the 5th bow
is supposed to go? I can take a picture of my sail panel area if it would
help at all. Or if anyone else has a photo of the sail panel area of a '70
Barracuda with the headliner out, that might be helpful.
The only thing I can think of is since the car is a Gran Coupe perhaps
the sheet metal was stamped differently? That doesn't seem likely though -
why spend all that extra money for a trim level that has the exact same
body lines?
Many thanks to anyone who can offer any help or advice!!
