filler tube repair
« on: April 19, 2006 - 01:19:31 PM »
I have been trying to find a way to resurface the end of the filler tube that goes inside the gas tank as it was rusted & I figured I should clean it & seal it to prevent further deterioration. I have tried cold galvanizing & engine enamel but found that a few days soaking in gas they would dissolve. My last attempt was the Krylon engine paint with ceramic which I heat cured in my gas grill & have had great results with a four day soak in gas.
Does anyone know of better, simple, inexpensive sure fire solution to this repair?  :feedback:

If it's really pitted, how about that 2 part metal type epoxy. I had a friend tell me to use that aroung my round Cuda tail lights instead of trying to weld that thin metal. You can grind it smooth and not have to top coat it. Try that under gas and I think it should hold up.
