    What carb/intake combo are YOU running?

    I have a 440, stroked ¼ inch, purple cam (I believe it is 284/484), headers and 833 4-speed with 3.23 rearend. I presently have a 440 torquer single plane and 780 vacuum secondaries. Haven’t run it in years but I remember it bogged.  I have about $800 to spend on a new carb & intake. What would you get?

    I am running the M1 single plane intake & 850 Holley DP carb on my 440

    440 with Holler Street Dominator intake and Holley 6212 Spreadbore double pumper @ 825 CFM

    Your cam is nice, but getting up there power band wise. Maybe that single plane would work for you??? It depends on how you plan on driving it, really. With 3:23's, you would need to be hiway driving to really get it all together here. As for a carb., I think you are definitely begging for a mechanical double-pumper. I have a 800 CFM in mine.  :burnout:

    I'm running a Edelbrock 750 on a stock 1970 340 Manifold. Car had a 625 Carter Double Pumper on it when I got it, but the fuel just poured trough that old carb. In the future I see a Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap/Speed Demon combo, or a Six-Pack!

    I like to drive around town.  Jump on it once in a while.  Do burnouts and 1/8 mile runs through the gears.

    Keep the Torker and get a holley 750dp list # 4779. It should be perfect right out of the box. It has the nice 4-corner idle feature which is helpful with long duration cams.  :thumbsup:

    The vac secondary carbs are better suited to mild cam combinations.  :2cents:

    Hey thanks for the advice. I like the looks of the torquer but everyone says the dual plane is best for street.

    Mark, the torker is an excellent street manifold and makes big torque due to the small runner design, much like a dual plane does. The reason they've fallen out of favor is that they start falling off after 5500 rpm while the other single planes pull higher. I've ran that manifold on mild 440's in the past and really liked it. With 3.55 gears it's a good match for your combo, inmo.

    My 340 has an Edelbrock LD4B intake with a Holley 750. This combo works well with my MP 474" Purple Shaft. It seems to do everything I want it to quite nicely with 4:10 gears.

    360 cid, zero deck pistons, Edel RPM heads & intake w/ a 750 Carter AFB being exited through Hooker Super Comp headers and 2-1/2 inch exhaust pipe, Hooker Max Flow mufflers.
    ('73, E body Cuda, 4spd w/4.10's and a 27 inch tire. S/S springs aqnd snubber. No track runs.)
