Dante's repro E-Body consoles?
« on: March 06, 2006 - 05:47:02 PM »
Anybody tried these?  It would appear they are in stock for $280... If they are (or are as good as) the L+P B-Body consoles, then we are in luck!

About to buy, tell me if I shouldn't...

I emailed, and Dante replied:

"Hi, in stock.  You need to reuse your old hardware and top plate"

sounds promising....

He's a great guy, I've dealt with him heaps. If it's not what you want he refund you your money.
I've purchased door panels (Palco) and although they were crap panels the shipping was fast and packed well.

I hate repro parts.  :villagers: I've also got moldings and seat parts from him.

I went to Dante's site, the picture didn't really show if the console is correct for a 1970-only vehicle. They do look good, though.

My guess is that they are either thermoformed plastic (a heated sheet stretched over an aluminm mold) or cast resin (liquid two part resin poured into a mold made of RTV).

The original consoles (and door panels) were made using an injection mold, a SUPER expensive process compared to either of the above. If they are injection molded I'd suspect they are very nice. If not I'd have my doubts. A good question to ask is what type of plastic they are made from, originals were molded in Polyethylene.

I have one of the L+P injection molded consoles for my 70 Charger R/T (haven't put it in yet) and I must say it looks darn good.  I know they went the hard way with the injection mold, but their website has been a' claimin' all kinds of injection-molded products in the pipeline, so I wishfully thought.....

I'll ask Dante....let ya know.

Yes, watch out for all the clever wording about molding, they know we want the "real thing" and few of them deliver on it. Here's the specific questions:

Are these parts INJECTION MOLDED
Are these parts made in either ABS or Polyethylene plastic

If you get anything else but yes, they are making excuses. If you ask Dante he'll tell you straight, he's an honest vendor.

I sure am glad I have a nice original 4 spd one, but I always worry about leaning over the console and cracking that thin strip so I good repro would be great.  I know I did that on a mint 71 auto console in my challenger.  Talk about feeling like a jerk. :stomp:
