is there writeups on trans...

is there any write ups about trans. and how much power/torque they can take. and what mods. so they will be able to handle more power/torque..

Just from experience I know the 833 will take a ton of abuse , but there are a lot of variables , there is the 23 splineusing the smaller fornt brg , & the 23 spline using the hemi 308 front brg , , the 23 OD using the 308 brg as well but some had fewer splines in the syncro hubs in later years , The OD in my Duster with fulkly spline syncros lived behind 525 HP for years ,. The 18 spimne is even tougher  with the heavier input shaft [not that I have ever seen even a 23 spline twist or break ] & the gears are pitched differently for more strenght too & it uses the large 308 brg as well , The Gm guys used to use a special blast sheild in Pro stock & use the 18 spline Mopar in th eearly 70s
 I used a built 727 behind a 850 8/71 blown 440 & it lived just fine , & lasted two seasons of racing possibly more , but I saw 1 used behind a blown alcohol 440 with probably 1200-1400 hp & it launched the drum over the grandstands at the track, luckily it missed the driver on the way out the door , I think a Lenco was in  order!!

I spoke to a few guys (rebuilders of 833's) about this as well wondering where the torque limits were for the 833.  The typical consensus is that the normal 833 will handle around 500 ft lbs, the OD unit handles around 450 or so.  I would use this as a rough guide in making decisions on transmissions, but as Chryco pointed out, lots of people have put these things through major abuse and the 833 seems to hold up pretty well. :)

what year of od should one look for and is the slant 6 the same ? these were avalible in

vans/trucks/dart lights/feather dusters/aspens/volaries

is that it ?

if the crank is not drilled for a bushing is there anything that can be done?

You will need a OD from a Truck Or van with the long tailshaft & dual shifter mount  as a bolt in for the E bodies , you can Identify the OD as the front shift lever will point down  not  up
 If the crank is not drilled , you can use the Dakota pilot bearing part # 53009180 - AB

i talked to a guy that has a dart it the 60's running a hemi and through the drum up through the floor..he never said how much the engine was making...seems like the more people i talk to  the more different answers i get....   ???

parts can fail at any HP level if the part is flawed but you have to go with the average
