Yeah for me!! 440!
« on: March 20, 2006 - 08:52:12 PM »
I picked up a virgin bore, steel crank '72 casting 440 at a swap meet the other day.  It was completly disassembled, but no machine work has been done.  The block had two pistons stuck in it which I have already removed.  I have cleaned up the block some and smeared some grease in the bores and on all the surfaces I don't want rust on.  Done the the same to the crank.  I did this since I don't plan on working on the engine for a while (body first).  It came 346 casting heads, and a stock iron 4 barrel manifold.  Judging by some brackets that were still on it and the oil pan, I have concluded that it came out of a truck.  Plans call for alum heads (eddy or indy) and posibly a stroker kit.  I didn't really plan on buying anything that day, but I couldn't pass it up.  $200 for the whole thing!

For $200, that would be tough to pass up. I just hope it isn't cracked or anything.

Yeah, I'm hoping the whole thing is still good.  It'll probably next spring before I can mess with it for real.  I want the body in primer for sure before I dig into the engine.  The guy I bought it from had the pick up it was going to go in for sale also.  Said he had to sell to pay some doctors bills.  Anyone here done any business with 440source.com?  I have been on there site a few times looking at all the neat stuff.  The prices almost seem to good to be true.

I've dealt with 440source.com.  It sound's like a small operation, but that's good.  You talk to the owner when you call and he's an encyclopedia of RB info. I have a 69 440 from a RoadRunner that somehow had a 73 truck water pump housing and accessory brackets on it. He got me straight! Got the parts quickly and the prices can't be beat!

Thanks for the info.  440source.com seems like the only place to stop and shop for big blocks.  I know there are others, but 440source sure has some good prices!
