Painting Hood Springs
« on: March 31, 2006 - 06:58:51 AM »
OK...what do you do with the hood springs? There's whatever the factory did (which I don't know   :dunno:) and what you can do to make it look good and last. I've blasted the springs, but don't know if I should prime and paint them, dip them in metal treatment and leave them raw, or what?

Ideas?

Thanks!

We blasted them and painted them body color, but gave them a white powder coat first.
That way when, not if, they chip due to wear and tear it will still show through white and still maintain protection.
We did the same with the trunk hinges.

I you're meaning the pop hood spring?
We just purchased a Year One repro and left it as is - natural steel.

Awesome looking work NZ and congrats by the way. I once saw some photoshop pictures of your car but didn't post, but wish I did so I could refind them. If you get a chance and don't mind point me in the right direction. I would like to learn more about photoshop/ digital photography in general.
thanks

My powder coating person doesn't like to do springs becasue when you bake them, he thinks it can affect the spring and tention.     :2cents:
