Hello
I"m curious on what would be the best cam shaft in a 383, that would sound every nice and till have good power but i want the car to idle. Its going to be used on as a weekend cruiser, so really the best overall cam or opinions?

It's hard to say with so little info, but if it's for a mild build motor, I always liked the  Mopar performance 484 lift cam, Worked great in my 383, and had a nice little lope to the idle. The RPM range is around 2200-6000

alright, Its 70 cuda, 383, 727, 83/4 re end, Right now its got a holley dd pumper but would be changed if need be, The cam in the car right now is way to big, its back firing and it should be used for drag race, sounds nice, doesn't idle at all. sorry i dont know what the cam in the car is now, the guy that built the block died, never marked what cam was. Should we put the cuda back to the orginal cam, that the way to go?
thanks

You would need to have more information to make a smart choice such as gear ratio, your driving intentions, and intake carb and heads. Any modifications to these would also be beneficial, and required. If you plan on putting some mileage on it with say 3.55 or 3.91s and a Holley 650-750, The Mopar 484" mentioned by Evil72 is a great choice. Most people tend to overcarb, and overcam when they want performance. You can find a great tech article on camshaft selection on the Hughed engines website found at www.hughesengines.com/ where they only build Mopar engines. I hope this helps.
