Verifying "numbers matching"
« on: June 11, 2006 - 09:00:38 PM »
It occours to me that since I'm in the market for a Challenger, I'd better have some idea of figuring out what I'm looking at when I'm looking at it.

For instance, how does one verify that a car is indeed "matching numbers"?

I guess the engine and tranny are the two most important parts, but rear-end would be good to know, too.

Is the VIN, or part of it stamped on these parts or what? How does the coding work?

Thanks in advance.

matching numbers can mean different things, most refer to the engine and trans matching the Vin#

for example....Vin#....BS23J0B103425 is on your dash...

 0B103425 should appear...

.... on the passenger side of the tranny
.... on the passenger side of the engine block
.... on the cowl in front of the driver
.... radiator support..........

but what it really means is the PART NUMBERS all are correct, carbs, lights, hoses etc etc etc....

I wrote this article for a buddy's website, it has text and photos to guide you through it.

The rear end does not have a VIN stamp.
