Steering wheel lock plate removal.
« on: April 04, 2006 - 12:49:04 AM »
Is there any easy way to remove the steering wheel lock plate with out the special tool?   Here some pictures of the plate and the tool they say to use.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

The year one tool doesn't look anything like it!

Use a screwdriver to move the plate and expose the pin, then support the shaft and drive it out with a punch.

Cody,
That tool from year one is for the GM style locking plate that sits on top of the turn signal switch. It has to be held down while a little wire retainer is either removed or installed.  Mopars used GM tilt type columns in the Cordoba. Which is the one I put in my '70 Challenger. If you ever had to take one of those off,  it's a real bear to put it back on. I found that a piece of 1/2 conduit and the Nut is enough to put it back together without that tool.

I agree , virtually any tilt Mopar column is a GM column, & the tool above is for those
