drive shaft angle

i have just finished installing my 5 speed went in nice no problems.my question is how do i no if my angle is right.i have the rear trans shimms that came with it.the rear of the moter seams to sit down in the rear a little more now dist closer to the fire wall.there is room to move trans up in the hump more.thank u for any help

I believe there is a guage you can use to check the angle.

I would raise the rear of the trans up if you have room , the drive shaft should angle down from the tranny slightly

  From experience raise it as high as you can. I had to raise the tranny plus use 4* shims at the rear.

why would u have to shim the rearend?? i put a 1/4 shim at rear of trans that they supply have room to get the 1/2 shim in there i had the inteior apart at the time so i put the sheet metal in.is there no set degree or tool to use

You need to buy an angle finder available at any hardware store for about $10. You should have no more than about 3* between the pinion and driveshaft and the rear of the tranny and the driveshaft. As you stated above the rear of the engine is lower so your driveline angle is probably off. You also want a negitive angle or reading between the driveshaft and pinion. I'll attach the positive angle I had before shimming the rear.

thanks for the picture 340 on the jack stands it looks like i will be ok guess i need to put the wheels on and drop it down is that a 83/4 rear end u have does not look like it

the picture is wrong you need the pinion angled down slightly

Correct angle with leaf springs is 5-7 degreess "nose down".

I assume this is the before photo.  Do you have a photo after you shimmed it showing the shims and correct angle?

To answer the questions, that was the rear Before the shims, and yes it is an 8 3/4 rear. I don't have a good pic of the angle after, but the angle should be the opposite of what the angle is at the opposite end of the driveshaft. In other words, If you have a -3* at the pinion you should have a +3* at the rear of the tranny, or as close as you can get.
