gasket removal
« on: April 12, 2006 - 02:45:10 PM »
I just disassembled a holley carb and found most of the gaskets welded to the carb.  I was wondering what I could soak the parts in that will help with the removal of these old gaskets??  I heard today that laquer thinner was a good thing to try??

Thanks

Ha,ha,
I thought my fuel bowls were welded on mine.  :pullinghair: Laquer thinner sounds good, or mineral spirits. The good news is, the newer gaskets won't weld like the old stuff did.

Yeah, the new new blue ones don't stick. If you have some old ones left, rub them with Chap-Stick before you put them on. To get the old ones off, I carefully used a razor blade.

Carb cleaner or brake clean will break down the glue on the brown gaskets
