OK!!  The Bro-in-Law came out today for my daughter's first birthday party...so naturally we did some more Chally trouble shooting.  With a fresh look, and a lot of tinkering, he noticed that there was proper voltage to the alternator and battery with key both on and off position.  However, there was low current to the coil, and so we (he) found an odd wire that was piggy-backed onto the wire to the coil ground terminal.  We simply snipped the wire (a l'il blue plastic connector with 2 sides to connect 2 wires together) and VOILA!!!  The motor started!!!  ok, it ran to about 7K RPM...but it IS a new carb and I'll need to 'dial it in'/tune it.  When the car started, with the new intake/carb set-up, it literally shook the windows!  It will be sometime tomorrow night after the carb/intake gasket sealant cures, then it's a night of carb tuning...and then STREET DOMINATION!

There is a shop in town with a chassis dyno, so I'm gunna see about making a few passes to see how much power I'm gettin to her.

I'd like to thank everybody who tried to help me diagnose this problem, and who knew it was something so stupid as a piggy-backed wire??  I dunno what it was for or where it went, since it disappears into a mass of electrical tape wrapped around a rats nest of wiring.  So...if the analog clock aint workin tomorrow, I won't care!

Thanks guys!  I'm REALLY  :jumping:  excited, and what was REALLY funny was, after we got it running, all of the neighbour men came over, happy to hear it start again!  Like it was a neighbourhood project.  'It takes a village to raise a MoPar'.  hehe. (a lot of my older neighbours are Harley riders in their mid-life crisis)

The car has brand new BFG's that have never felt tirespin, a new carb with bigger jets and the new manifold replacing the stock intake.  ahem..achchchchchch...hkkkkkkk...

SQUWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :burnout:

There are about 2 or 3 local ricers I have in my sights, too.  Gunna be a GOOOOD year!  :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi

Glad to hear that the thing started!   That wire on the negative coil, either went to a tach or kill switch.  Did you find any switches in the car that you flipped?

yeah, BUT the guy has a hisory of not paying, and he's already giving me the runaround, saying he wants his friend to come and inspect the car before he pays for it.  Clearly not up on the whole concept of eBay.  He also wanted me to let his friend use my garage to fix the engine problem.  OK, it IS fixed...but HE doesn't know that.  Needless to say, I'm trying pretty hard to disuade him frm ponying up the cash.

I'm VERY confident, and I have the wife's support..so that makes things a l'il easier, too

well, my fingers are covered in grease, and I STINK like only the exhaust of a big block full of year-old oil can make ya stink, but BY GOLLY I just had a heckuva rip 'round the neighbourhood!  Unfortunately, as Shelbydog mentioned, the wire causin the problems went to the Tach, so I don't have a tach to guage RPM to make my dial-ins correct, and went by ear to set it.

Is there maybe a way to rewire the tach or is it necessary for it to be attached to the coil ground terminal wire?  What if I extened the wire and attach it right to the terminal with a C-clip?

WHY would a tach cause a coil to not fire??  Any thoughts?? :clueless:

Apparently there is some kind of short inside the tach. I had a tach like that once. The funny thing is, it worked once the car was running... it was just REAL tough to get the car started to begin with.

greeeeeeeaaaaaatttttt!!!!!  MORE money I don't have.  The car doesn't have a speedo, so I useta use the tach as a speedo...now I'll be flying blind.  BRING ON THE TICKETS!
