How detailed should I go?

I am trying to determine exactly how far I should go in detailing the body on my 70 R/T. I have to replace both quarter panels as well as the trunk with extension panels. I cleaned up the undercarriage and sprayed it with a black sheen paint before I installed the new rear leaf springs, but after looking at the cars I see on this site, I wonder if I should have gone into deeper detail and maybe painted it the same as the exterior original color which is Burnt Orange.  :feedback:

My philosophy is: Do it once, do it right. Don't do any "half-ar$e" jobs, you'll waste time and money fixing up body work that should have been done properly the first time. If you happy with the car, and feel you've done it right, then you have nothing to worry about.....however, if you feel you've left a process out, think about re-doing it or getting a professional shop or someone who knows what their doing to check your work out and look for any possible faults.

How far through the body work are you?  :dunno:

I guess I am really still in the beginning stages. I just got the chassis back on its wheels last week after replacing the front and rear suspensions. The undercarriage is in real good shape, and like I said, I painted it with a black sheen paint, but I do have to go back and replace the trunk panel along with the extensions. I have quarters to replace and the doors and fenders to work on next.

I'd say that if you plan on driving the car a lot, you've made the right choice painting it black.  Black will hide the chips better than body color, so that'd be a plus.  Now if you plan on just driving it occasionally (like on weekends to shows and stuff) then you may want to look into detailing it better underneath if you go that route. :cheers:

It really depends what you are looking for-a trophy winner or just a clean driver?If you want to be really correct most underbodys had just primer with overspray of the body color.

Good info everyone.... Im gonna weigh my options when I get it to the body shop in approx 2 weeks. I think Im gonna try to go the more detail route. I dont plan on driving it around like an every day car, but I may be interested in entering itin a few shows just for fun... Thanks for the replies.

Forgot to mention (good tips lads) keep it black if your ride will be driven heaps.
We used the same stuff they used on Joe Regan's Sick Fish Cuda, black and with a rubber compound + sound deadener. Lasts ages, looks good and most importantly is driver friendly.....I can take it back in after a few years of hard driving, get them to power blast it and it will look like it did when we started.......brand new. :naughty: :grinyes:
