oPINION QUESTION ON MY '70
« on: April 14, 2006 - 12:32:02 PM »
Ok, I figured I'd toss this out to an all Ebody crowd. First a bit of history. The car is a BH23L0. 1970, 383 2bbl non Gran Coupe/727B Barracuda. It's fairly rare from what I can dig up, but not rare as in desirable (Hemi, 6pac, options, etc) rare because not many people wanted them in '70... It's FE5 red, black gut, and not much else. I drove it daily for 2-3 years with a 440+6 in it..original motor is gone, but I have a dated '70 block that may go back. Since then, I drag raced it with various engines in it. Mods include firewall clean up (heater delete and welding up of firewall holes), slight modifying of master cylinder area because of rust, and the use of the MP aluminum master cylinder, relocation of battery to trunk, 3X2 square steel frame connectors inset in the floorpans, the rear floor pans raised 2" to accomodate 4" exhaust and mufflers, and rocker panels clearanced and channeled for 4" pipes in front of the rear tires. (Think AAR on steroids..lol). The rear is narrowed, but hung on SS springs and offset hangers..no tubbing. Aftermarket (old ones, really nasty stuff) 1/4 skins, and Year One trunk floors and one front floor section. The body is solid, but has a bit of filler. It doesnt show it, but I know it's there. Currently, the car has no no. I have steel fenders (had glass) but they need lots of work, and no hood. I havent driven it much in the past 8 years, except to race it, and even that isnt much. I have a plan for a 426 hemi, 4sp, and Dana conversion for the driveline, plus adding a white gut, and the correct console, dash light, etc. When I do a clone, you cant tell except from the numbers, it's not just a motor swap. I have a Dana, and all the factory 4sp stuff. even the stuff most overlook, sitting on a shelf. I had planned to remove the mods to the floor pans, replace the cheapo skins with goodmark 1/4s, and then to the hemi deal, complete with shaker. Friends say "it looks fine, just paint it, put it together, and drive it". It can be seen in Hemming's Muscle Machines from Nov of last year. The article about track rentals..Mines the primer one racing my old high school car (the green '71 6pac..) So, what woudl the world have me do? I dont really want a nut and bolt resto..But the value lies in it being correct. But I dont have the factory motor, trans, or rear.As I said, I'd like to have a nice solid good looking hemi clone, because I've always wanted one and never had it. I dont think I can mis $$ wise doing the hemi clone. I mis driving it, but I am busy on others cars, so it's not like I'm in a rush. So what do 'yall think? Abuse doesnt bother me, so dont feel you need to be nice.

clone w/out overrestoring & I think you could have value over investment. It will never be an original so why bother.  :2cents:

It sounds like it has been pretty heavily modified so not really worth redoing everything to restore a low option 383 Gran Coupe car so I agree clone it!

He said it was NOT a gran coupe, besides low option or not with a BB(any barracuda) its desireable and should be restored,if he had the original drivetrain,so i say clone it as well.I'd rather have a BB low option car than the most dressed up optioned small block you can find,as did most people on a poll a few months ago.

Moparnut, wifee also has a 1hp registered 1/4horse. (I own a horse farm) She shows him. great guy..much better head than the thoroughbreds.

Clone it, you won't lose any money doing that, since it's not " original " anyway. Build it how you want to.
