750 dp Holley??????
« on: April 21, 2006 - 10:26:00 PM »
Hello
I"m just curious why everyone has a dp holley carb on there car for the most part because the car I bought a few weeks ago has a 750 dp pumper and Its also an automatoin (383), Isn't the 750 dp holley carb over kill? Just curoius because i have been told that I should switch the carb. to a 600 holley? Just curious on other peoples thoughts and opinions? What i should stay with and why or change to? I want to drive the car and this car will never go on the drag strip. A weekend cruiser for the most part.
thanks

How does the car drive now? That 750 should be a perfect fit for a 383.

The car isn't driving now (but did like crap)&(it was dangerous), the guy that built the engine didn't know anything and completely messed the heads (in the scrap now) and the cam shaft is a huge drag cam P4529318 purple mopar cam, The oil pan was full of gas when we took the oil out. Right now were just got a complete set of old heads out of a 400 block and rebuilding them and putting in new valves. The cam shaft is going to be a cam out of roadrunner. Thats were i'm at with the car.
So i'm just thinking about the future if the carb should be changed or the stay.
Thanks

I think you'll be plenty happy with that 750 double-pumper. It sounds like that is the least of your problems now anyway. Good luck with that engine. Gas in the oil pan???  :22yikes: Maybe the diaphram on the fuel pump ruptured and let gas into the crank case? Just my first guess, but if the engine wasn't built right, it could be something else.

If it's a Stick, keep the double pumper. If it's an auto, get a vacuum secondary. Make sure that you keep the same lifters with the lobes they came off of. If there is any chance that they get mixed up, get new lifters. If you can afford them now, GET NEW LIFTERS.

That 750 DP is a very good carb. Had one on my 440 Daytona Running 10.15. (couldn't put on my 1050 because of the PRO thing.)

Extension???  Thought you said it was already on the car. There is a lever just for mopars that bolts on to the side, not too pricey though. You need one to line up the throttle cable.  Also helps to line up the kickdown linkage if you have an Automatic.  You running an AUTO?  The 1st post is kind of vague.
