73 barracuda 318 mathcing #'s---convert to a 383 impulse buy?
« on: April 30, 2006 - 07:42:15 PM »
 :screwy:

I have a 73 Barracuda with a #'s 318,   went to look at some other cars (junk) but bought a 383bb along with e-body headers and a 750 holly and transmission.  Looks like I have to change the radiator and m.mounts, but will this 383 work with power steering and pwr breaks?  Or should I just put the parts in the corner of the garage and find a 340 or a new 5.7 hemi
Thanks, Mike

It is basically a bolt in , you will need brakets for the alt & power steering

Thanks for your help.  I't just looks like the outlet of the water pump is right were the power steering pump should be.

Thanks,
Mike

You need a big block radiator.  Lower (outlet) is on the driver's side. Upper (inlet) is on the passenger side.

Yeah, He'll need the motor mount brackets and all of the accessory mounts and pulleys to align all of the belts.

MWilson904, How much came on the front of the 383 when you bought it? Pulleys? fan?
Your power steering pump will mount like this.  MY bracket is for A/C but yours will be similar.  You need to find a donor car in the junk yard or buy all the brackets from Mancini.

You guy's are great! thanks for all your help.
I looked on Year One for the Brackets, I'll find Mancini also.  The motor doesnt have any pully's or brackets currently so the picture really helps.
I planned on the conversion motor mounts and a new radiator and all the pully's but read somewhere that power steering wasn't an option with big blocks.

I had went to look at a Duster, Polara, and Fury Station wagon from some ad.
Couldn't leave empty handed so I bought the 383, trans, new headers and new 750 carb from the guy.  The guy is selling everything he has and moving to tennesee.

Again, Thanks for your help!

Welcome aboard Mwilson!  You could always go with some aftermarket brackets like mine!
