silicone brake fluid recall
« on: May 01, 2006 - 05:37:39 PM »
At the Oreilly auto parts this morning I ask the manager what he thought/knew about silicone brake fluid. He was not too up on the product but stated that he recently had recieved notice of a recall on silcone fluid. He did not know what the problem was, but they carry Gunk brand. I just Googled for info and found none but did run across the interesting article. It looks like I will be sticking to DOT3.  :bigshades:

There was another post a while back about Silicone fluid and I mentioned the lower boiling point too.  If your master cylinder cover seal doesn't leak, you shouldn't have to worry about your paint. Just be careful while bleeding and filling.

Both types probably work fine 99.9% of the time, just change it regularly.I have been running DOT 5 silcone in the cuda for 8+ years without a problem.

I have used Ford C6AZ-19542 Dot 3 brake fluid for years.  It has a 555 degree boil point.
