Dumb #40 Pushrod Question.
« on: May 17, 2006 - 01:20:51 PM »
I had a bad Hyd lifter in my 71 340 Cuda and am going to replace the lifters so I ordered new Comp pushrods as well. It's got a non-adjustable valvetrain so I just ordered the one's out of the Summit book listed for the 273-360 engine. The others listed said they were for use with solid lifters and another set was for use with Hyd lifters and adjustable rockers. I put one of the newer ones along side one of my old ones and the newer one looks just a wee bit shorter??
Wonder if for some reason my car had longer pushrods installed in it when I got it way back when. It has had a Comp Magnum hyd cam in it since I got it with .470 lift and the duration @ .050 is 224.
I'm certainly not as knowledgeable as most of you in this area and am looking for some direction as to reasons and if I need to reorder somethinf else??
Thanks.......'Tim"

Hey Tim
As long as the piston in the lifter is not touching the retainer clip & has .030 clearance to the clip when loaded with the valve fully closed you will be fine shorter pushrods help to prevent lifter pump up at higher Rpm so what you have should be fine as long as you check the lifter with the valvetrain in place
