Time to build a garage!
« on: May 20, 2006 - 05:53:26 PM »
Looking for input on what to have in my garage such as a loft, fridge for cold drinks,tv,shower, etc.
Those of you that have had a garage built, what do you wish you had done that you didn't do?
Will not be doing any welding. Also will not have room for a full blown lift.
 Thanks in advance.

Our biggest need was space!  :grinyes:  We built an extra 2 car garage onto our existing one car garage.  The garage has a workroom in the back and above the workroom is an attic (nice for storing parts).  We wanted lots of lights and a couple 220 lines, so electrical was also a concern.  Will this be attached to your house or detached?

Built it big enough for your need, Put alot of cement in the floor  say 6" at least and put rebar lot of rebar in it so it will not crack, and have some drain in it, even if it dump into a dry well, Lot of lights, and a big fuse block to hold alot of circuit breaker, and if you are going to finishes it off later date then use Fire proof sheet rock, make sure you got alot of outlet(mine are every two feet) heating system  so you can keep warm to work on your car without freezing.
decided what you are going to do about an Air Compressor, and then pipe it  around the garage also have a outside Outlet for Electicity, and Air, also motion detector Light on the out side  of the garage, and if you are storing your Valuable Mopar car in it then I would install some sort of an alarm system, also in stall a Phone line out there. this spec is for Cold weather State since I don't know where you live at the moment. More to come after I think about what more I can put into your Garage for you

Obviously you can add any and all "luxury" items you want, but when you pour the floor have radiant heat installed in the floor, you will so appreciate the warm floor when laying under the cars you are working on. A rather costly convience but it would be so nice. My garage is super insulated and I can have it 70+ degrees in there in the middle of winter, but laying on the concrete floor can chill you to the bone.

Everyone knows you can't have a big enough building. I started in a 20 x 22, then a 30 x 40, then a 60 x 60, and now a 60 x 80 and I still don't have enough storage. I have CMPD (Compulsive Mopar Buying Disorder). If I go to look at a Mopar 4 sale I end up draging it home and I can't stop! Anyway, make a game plan that meets your needs and will fit into your budget.

Out of all the stuff you will need in your new garage, make sure you keep it stocked with plenty of Mopars....   :ylsuper:   :cooldancing:
