    Help with diff casting numbers please

    Are the casting no.s on the diff just serial no.s or do they tell about gears etc? Mine is an 8 3/4, with the no 2573 and 2881488 cast on the carrier (left side, close to flange). Any help please?

    the casting # is xxxx489
    & that is just the casting # the gear ratio would be on a small metal tag on one of the bolts
