Engine balancing
« on: May 30, 2006 - 06:23:13 PM »
I have a 66 440 and the crank came out of a 68 440 and the rods and pistons from a 69 440. I would imagine that balancing all these parts would be needed since it wasn't from the same assembly. If it isn't going to be a racing engine should everything still be balanced or has anyone ever put one together and ran one with a problem?

it would run OK , the 440s were not very closely balanced from the Factory
Having said that if ti si apart why wouldn`t you get it balanced , it will run smoother & extend its life

It would just be in the car for a short time. There's a show this weekend I'd like to take the care to. I've got two other motors almost set to go but the shop lost track of the cranks that they had from October. They sent it out to another shop who lost their machinist who does balancing so now its at another one.  Thanks, I know it should be balanced for smoothness but was wondering if anybody had tried it.

It looks like I'm going to be getting another motor Friday for the show. As it turned out the crank cracked in half after it spun the thrust bearing in this other motor.
