Power Steering pump ID?
« on: May 25, 2006 - 10:55:15 AM »
I noticed recently that I had a new leak dripping on the garage floor under my '70 Challenger 383 and that the fluid level in my power steering pump reservoir was very low.  I was going to take it off this weekend and rebuild it, but when I called NAPA they said they have to order a kit and it won't be until next week and furthermore, they asked me if I had a Saginaw or Thompson pump.  :banghead: I looked in my shop manual and they ID them as .94 and 1.06 pumps.  Mine is a .94.  So how do I know which kit I need so I can order one? ??? Thanks!

According to my book, the .94 pump is the Saginaw. Napa also has the pumps avalible.

Thanks!  I checked Carquest and they had pumps also (no kits).  They said they could have one for me in a matter of hours instead of a matter of days like NAPA said for the kit.  I looked at the picture they had and the pump looked like the .94  but the reservoir looked different.  They said they also have them without reservoirs that include an oring to reuse your old tank for $50 so I think I am going to go that way.  Hope its the right pump, I was hoping to get the car fixed this weekend and put the top down for some cruisin'!

I just bought a saginaw pump from Napa, took them 1 day to get it. I had to use my old case as the reman one had a GM case. :puke: The case is easy to change. The pump is not hard to rebuild either. Good luck.
