Which Holley ??

I just talked with a previous owner of my car . He owned it from 74-89 and he tells me that the original carb was replace with a Carter. Which is on the car now. He said the original was a Holley.

What kind of holley would have been on a 70 Challenger 383 R/T  L.A. car?

a holley 4160, the exact model number would depend on whether or not the car was a california car or not (the emissions package would have been different). The ca. cars had a bowl vent valve that was tied into the valve cover and fuel vapor seperator in the trunk, an electric solenoid vacuum advance on the distributor and an electrical connector on the carb.

If you have a Carter carb the #'s are as follows:  #4732 & #4734 383 A/T W/ AC.  #4737 383 S/T.  #4736 383 A/T wo/ac.   The carbs are the AVS version. Maybe your Carter is the same as one of these and you have a carb someone else would need.

R4360-A or R4366-A are the only two numbers I could find in an old motors book. Might have something different in the factory service manual. The carb is pretty specific though, since the bowl vent valve feeds a tube instead of dumping to the atmosphere and has a green wire with a grey (I think) connector to connect to the distributor vaccum advance can/solenoid. Once you see one, you can pick it out of a pile of holleys in an instant, the good thing is usually if you see one at a swap meet, no one wants it so it goes for cheap!

I did a quick net search of the those numbers.... and theres nothing on the web about mopar or carter or holley and those numbers.

I got those numbers from a 73 motors manual, I'll see what I can dig up from the factory manual a little later today.
