70-71 idle solenoids
« on: June 24, 2006 - 12:38:32 AM »
On idle solenoids for the 70-71 are there any differences between the 2 years on a Hemi? I heard the 71 solenoids have a hexagonal head and the 70's are round.

I remember the 71 4 speed that would ony fit to a 71 engine, I can't remember if the pilot shaft was too long, I thknk that is a differance, also different pilot bushing.

Here is a picture of what I think might be a 71 solenoid, but am not sure.

Solenoid is round for Hemi's for 70-71. Someone sent me an e-mail about it. 4440+6 engines used the hexagonal solenoid head only. Article about it in Mopar Muscle, Jan. 03.

That's why I'm doing my homework on these parts. I'm discovering that these Hemi engines have a lot of particular rules on parts that don't apply to the B or RB engines. Yet they both share many at the same time. The solenoids are being remade at $175.00 ea. Now that I've know the differences on the solenoids and the power steering, I should be in the clear.

I have a write up that tells all about the solenoids for the 6 packs and Hemi. It helps understand what was used for what engine and year application. If anyone is ever interested, send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send it to you. It's in an Adobe PDF form, so I didn't know how to convert it over to a file. Better reading anyway as a PDF besides.
