71 Challenger side scoops
« on: April 22, 2003 - 06:29:52 PM »
 ??? Hello All,
This is sooo typical of me. I bought a pair of NOS 71 Challenger side scoops. How do you put them on??? I figured they would be like the repro's, only not made of fiberglass. The thing is, the repro's had bolts that you could just put a nut on. The NOS have something that looks almost like a nail. What would fit over them to secure them to the body, and where would I find them? Thanks.

MEKrunner:

You're looking for a "speed nut" or sometimes called a "cutting nut".  It will slice a "thread" into the unthreaded stud (nail type thing) that you are talking about.  I've seen them available through RPM parts (www.rpmrestoparts.com or 770-975-9868, RPM calls them "metal cap nuts"), or through R/T specialties (www.rtspecialties.net or 570-388-1082).  You also can find them in your local auto parts store in their hardware bins.

 :D Larry,
Thanks alot ;D I couldn't for the life of me figure out what could hold them on. I thought about the sleeve that holds the Challenger emblems to the front fenders, but I knew nothing like that was big enough for these "nail-like" creatures that I was staring at. I have so much to learn :-[
