ignition switch question
« on: May 29, 2006 - 04:09:48 PM »
73 challenger recently purchased wiring is shabby and trying to redo correctly.
Question concerns the switch that depresses when the key is inserted. Is this for the buzzer?  The connector with it has been burned and all it has is two red wires left.  I believe they had this connected to the wiring connector in the harness (also burned) that has two orange wires and a black wire.
I have ordered a new turn signal switch and ignition switch and I can see where they connect.  The other switch and ruined connector with the orange wires is a mystery.
Help please.         Thanks, Tom

yes the switch with 2 red wires is the buzzer , personally I would not spend / waste any time fixing that annoying switch & harness  :swear:

10/4 I will take it out.
What about the connector with the two orange wires and 1 black wire? That is all that is left because the other half was burned or cut off.  I was wondering if that somehow tied in to the dash light circuit.

I need to checkj a wiring diagram to find out what the wires could be for
typically all orange wires under the dash are instrumnet lights & work off the dimmer switch though

thanks-    I have a 74 diagram that I use but I could not spot anything. I only see connectors for the signal switch and the ignition.

If you don't have any new connectors, use some of the old ones after carefully removing them,  then solder them onto new wires.  The orange one goes to the ignition switch light if you have one. And  the 2 red ones are for the buzzer like Chryco said.

I'm in electronics, so everything I have still works. If my car didn't come with it, I added it. Everything except power windows.

thanks,  I will leave it alone.  No ignition light and no buzzer wanted.
