1970 bumperettes - Rubber or Chrome
« on: May 30, 2006 - 10:46:49 AM »
checking with Tri-city chrome to fix my problem (see link below)

to get my under bumper bumperettes re-chromed I asked about the rubber strip that mine has.
Tri-city says the '70 is all chrome with no rubber.

Pulling out my old Mag's and pics I see 'em both ways.
Was it a mid year switch?
could it be an SE thing?
Which is considered correct for a '70 Challenger?

Are the brackets the same for each type?
Need input asap.
Thanks

personally I like the looks of the rubber and they match the front better.

My 70 Challenger R/T was born on 1-6-70  and I have the solid chrome.

Maybe its an SE thing

That's a good question. Most don't have the rubber on the rear bumper guards. Maybe this is an S/E thing?  :dunno: In any case, they all used the same brackets.

I believe if your car came with the front bumper guard option the rubber pads were added to the rear as well.

No, there is no rubber on my back bumperettes. All front ones had it though.  :clueless: Go figure. Another Mother Mopar puzzle. I don't think the backs look bad without it. Just my opinion.  :2cents:

Nah that's ok. It looks good, but just trying to get a definitive answer on what my car is supposed to have. I do think the rubber ones match the front better and offer a little more protection in a small hit without showing damage.

You would need a broadcast sheet or original window sticker to know what came on the car.

That said, for 1970 Challengers;

M83 - Rear bumper guards - Standard. ( These are the plain chrome style)
M85 - Bumper guards - Front and rear rubber inserts.

M85 was available on all 1970 Challenger models, the cost was $23.80

T/Ake care,
Barry

Mine has rubber on the front but not the back, it's a plain JH.

My front and rear bumpers have no rubber on them.  (I kind of like it better that way)
